Small Vessel Alaska Cruises

Q: For Summer 2011, can you point me towards a cruise on a SMALLER vessel from Anchorage to Vancouver or Seattle?

A: Silverseas offers a smaller ship between Seward, Alaska, just 130 road miles from Anchorage, and Vancouver¬†. InnerSea Discoveries and American Safari cruises offer smalll ship cruises in southeast Alaska but do not come as far north as Anchorage. The major cruise lines that sail to Alaska are either mid size or large ships. Occasionally Princess will sail a small ship up to Alaska but in 2011 there aren’t any scheduled. Princess is famous for its small ship feel though so you may be interested in checking them out.

Cruise Transfers from Airport

Q: We are going on a cruise leaving May 16th out of Seward. We fly into Anchorage at 12:30pm and need to be in Seward before 8:00pm. How often do the motorcoaches leave the airport in Anchorage?

A: Holland America has motorcoach departures from the airport direct to Seward starting at about noon and ending by 3:30pm or 4:00pm, depending on if flights are arriving on schedule. However, the coaches depart as they fill up, so depending on how many other passengers are arriving at the same time as your flight, you may have to wait a while. You’ll want to check in with a Holland America representative in the baggage claim and they’ll direct you to where the coaches depart from. The motorcoach transfer to Seward is 127 miles and takes about 3 hours, sometimes less depending on traffic.
