Denali Bluffs Location

Q: Where is the Denali Bluffs Hotel located?

A: The Denali Bluffs Hotel is located at mile 236.4 of the Parks Highway, about a mile north of the entrance to Denali National Park. Most of the Denali hotels are concentrated in this area. The Denali Bluffs has a hotel shuttle service from the railroad depot to the hotel property. There are a few backcountry lodges inside the park itself. We recommend the Kantishna Roadhouse.

Denali Accommodations in May

Q: I have noticed that most Denali accomadation is fully booked for May 2011 but available for the following three months. Is there a reason for this?

A: It is not that the Denali hotels are sold out in May. It is that most of them are not open until the middle, to end of May, with some not opening until June because of the travel season. Tours into Denali National Park do not start until May 15th.

Hotels Inside Denali National Park

Q: What hotels are available inside Denali National Park?

A: Most Denali hotels are located just outside of the entrance to Denali National Park. There are several remote backcountry lodges located in the Kantishna region, about 90 miles down the Park Road. We recommend the Kantishna Roadhouse located at the end of the Park Road. Rates include transportation to and from the lodge, meals and activities.

Alaska Hotel Pricing

Q: How does the pricing work for hotel reservations?

A: Hotel rates listed on our website are the base rates so applicable bed taxes will be added. Each city has a different bed tax rate. The single occupancy rate is the cost of one hotel room for one person. The double occupancy rate is the cost of one hotel room for two people. A triple rate is for one room with three adults and a quad occupancy rate is for one room with four adults. For most properties, there is no charge for children under the age of 12. Children 12 years of age and older are considered adults for hotel and tour pricing.

RV Campgrounds

Q: We will be traveling through Alaska by RV next summer. Both Whittier and Talkeetna will be a stop but we can’t find an RV park in those towns. Any suggestions on overnight parking in those areas for an RV?

A: Unfortunately, there isn’t a campground in Whittier. There is a great campground in Portage Valley called Williwaw Campground. It is run by the Alaska State Parks and is located on the road leading to the Whittier Tunnel. There are a few options in Talkeetna, none in downtown but the one I believe is walking distance to pretty much all the sights is the Talkeetna Camper Park.

Kenai Princess Lodge Transportation

Q: Is there transportation to Seward from the Kenai Princess Lodge?
A: Kenai Princess Lodge does not offer a transfer or shuttle to Seward except if you have purchased a day cruise to Kenai Fjords National Park through their tour desk.

Hotel Shuttles

Q: How do I get from the airport to my hotel at the start of my trip?
A: Most of the hotels we work with in both Anchorage and Fairbanks offer a complimentary airport shuttle. The hotel phone number will be in your itinerary for you to call upon your arrival.

Hotels Inside Denali National Park

Q: Is there a hotel inside Denali National Park?
A: All of the hotels near the Denali Park entrance are located outside of the Park. Most are located between the Denali Canyon area one mile north of the Park entrance and the McKinley Village area about seven miles to the south. There are a few backcountry lodges located deep inside Denali Park at the end of the 90 mile Park road. This is a great experience and we highly recommend the Kantishna Roadhouse for those looking to stay inside Denali Park.

Hotel Room Definitions

Q: Can you explain what a single, double, triple and quad means for the hotel rooms?
A: Single, double, triple, quad refers to the number of adult occupants in each hotel room. This does not refer to bed types. Most hotels do not charge additional for children age 11 and under.

Denali National Park Tours from McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge

Q: We booked our trip through a travel agent. I noticed we are staying at McKinley Princess Lodge, but have a McKinley Glacier Landing by Airplane tour with a pickup from the McKinley Chalets. Transportation to McKinley Chalets is at our own expense. We were wondering how far we have to go and if McKinley Princess Lodge has a shuttle to go their or if we have to rent a vehicle. ?
A: McKinley Princess Lodge is located at Mile 133 of the Parks Highway in an area known as Denali State Park. The McKinley Chalets is located at Mile 238 of the Parks Highway just outside the entrance to Denali National Park. There are no transportation options from McKinley Princess to the McKinley Chalets that you can take for a day trip. If you wanted to do flightseeing from McKinley Princess Lodge, you would be much better off booking a flightseeing tour out of Talkeetna which is located about an hour south of McKinley Princess Lodge. Princess does operate a shuttle from McKinley Princess down to Talkeetna which they charge a $10 fee to utilize..

McKinley Princess has beautiful views of Mt. McKinley but there is no access to the Park. But, there are some great day excursions that can be taken from McKinley Princess such as kayaking or hiking at Byer’s Lake. We book McKinley Princess but only in combination with a stay near Denali National Park as well. That way they can take a tour into the Park such as the Tundra Wilderness Tour or Kantishna Wilderness Tour
