Denali Rail and Bus Tour

Q: We are planning a trip to Alaska in July. Can we ride the railway to Denali then take the tour bus from there? And if so, should we make reservations now for the day we want to go or can we just take the tour that day from entrance to park?

A: You would be able to take the train to Denali and then take a bus tour into the park however not all in one day. We recommend at least two nights in Denali – arrive by train, overnight, take a full day bus tour into the Denali National Park, overnight and then depart by bus or train the following day. I would suggest booking the train, hotel, and tour all in advance because availability is starting to become limited.

Kantishna Roadhouse Transportation

Q: Is the only way to the Kantishna Roadhouse on a bus or is there flight service?

A: The local air taxi in Kantishna is called Kantishna Air Taxi. They offer flights to and from Kantishna from the Denali Park entrance, Fairbanks, and Anchorage. If you are staying at the Kantishna Roadhouse, we recommend taking the bus to the Roadhouse and returning to the park entrance by air!

Fairbanks Gold Dredge Tour

Q: Does the gold dredge tour include transportation from from Fairbanks?

A: Gold Dredge #8 does not include transportation out to the site. If you have the time I would recommend renting a car for one day, this would be the most inexpensive way to get there. You can take a taxi, however it will cost about $100.00 round trip.

Trans-Alaska Pipeline

Q: Is there a tour of the oil pipeline from Anchorage or Denali?

A: The Trans-Alaska Pipeline can be seen on the city tour in Fairbanks and in route to the town of Valdez. Unfortunately, you are unable to see the Pipeline from the Anchorage or Denali areas. There is a great exhibit of the pipeline at the Anchorage Museum.

Alaska Accommodations

Q: Do you have accommodations (cabins) that can handle a party of 7 ?

A: All of the cabins and hotels we sell in Denali National Park will only accommodate a maximum of four guests. You may want to consider booking two cabins or two rooms.

Fairbanks to Vancouver

Q: How can I get from Fairbanks to Vancouver BC without driving or flying?

A: I would recommend taking the Alaska Railroad between Fairbanks and Whittier and a 7-day Alaska cruise between Whittier and Vancouver. You would need two days to do the rail travel with an overnight in Anchorage. The rail from Fairbanks to Anchorage is a twelve hour trip arriving into Anchorage at about 8pm. The next morning you could take the rail from Anchorage to Whittier to board the cruise ship.

Denali Bus Reservations

Q: Do you recommend already booking a shuttle tour in Denali for the end of June?

A: If you plan to go on one of the shuttles that run all day, such as the Denali shuttle bus to the Eielson Visitor Center then you can wait until it is closer to your travel date to book. However, this shuttle is geared towards backpackers and hikers and there will be no narration because it is just transportation in and out of the park. If you are interested in one of the narrated full day bus tours into the park, such as the Kantishna Wilderness Trails Tour, you will need to book that as soon as possible because this tour does sell out on a regular basis during late June.

Kantishna Tour in Denali Park

Q: We would like to take the tour all the way to Kantishna to see the full length of the road in Denali National Park but are concerned about spending twelve hours on a bus. Are there any shorter trips to Kantishna?

A: I would recommend taking the tour to Kantishna and then flying back to Denali on a scenic flight with Kantishna Air. This allows you to experience Denali National Park from the ground and the air as well.

Kantishna Roadhouse

Q: Can you make reservations at the Kantishna Roadhouse for 2 nights, with transportation?

A: We can certainly assist you with reservations at the Kantishna Roadhouse. Transportation to and from the lodge through Denali National Park is provided with the cost of your stay. Adequate parking is available at the Denali Park entrance where the Kantishna Roadhouse bus will pick up.

Denali Bus Tours

Q: Are there any Denali bus tours that have a restroom located on the bus?

A: There are not any bus tours in the park that have restrooms on board. The tours do stop every 1-1 ½ hours for restroom breaks.
