Advance Reservations in Alaska

Q: I am planning on visiting in May. Do I need to make advance reservations?

A: Even though May is considered the shoulder season, there are still many visitors coming to Alaska during this time. I absolutely would recommend advance reservations for hotels, transportation and tours. Some hotels aren’t open in May, particularly in Denali so although there are fewer visitors there are also fewer lodging options available. Tours may operate on a slightly different schedule early in the season so booking in advance ensures that you have accurate information before you arrive.
