Luggage Allowance on Alaska Bus

Q: We are travelling from Seward to Denali National Park by motorcoach in June. What is the luggage allowance on the bus?

A: The baggage allowance on the Park Connection Motorcoach is 2 bags per person. Additional luggage fees would apply to bicycles and fish boxes.

Seward Car Rental

Q: We arrive by cruise ship in Seward in June. Can I hire a car in Seward, drive the car around Alaska for 6 days and leave the car in Anchorage? If not, how can we get to Anchorage to hire a car?

A: You can rent a car in Seward and drop it off in Anchorage with Hertz, however it is fairly expensive. I would suggest taking our Park Connection Motorcoach into Anchorage and rent a car there. Be sure to look at the post cruise land packages we offer.  These packages could be customized to fit your time frame.

Park Connection Passport

Q: If we purchase the Park Connection passport when would we receive the bus passport? Would we need to rent a car if we have this passport?

A: The Park connection Passport is not a physical passport that is mailed to you. To utilize this special you would need to book the bus transfers in advance. Click here for more detailed information on the passport. If you have the passport and are doing all your travels within a week to the locations the bus service operates you would most likely not need a rental car.

Talkeetna to Denali

Q: Is there a bus tour that I can take from the Talkeetna Lodge to see Denali National Park?

A: There is not a day tour from Talkeetna to Denali available. We do offer bus transportation service between Talkeetna and Denali National Park called the Park Connection. Once you arrive in Denali, we recommend a two night stay and a bus tour into Denali National Park.

Denali to Seward Transportation Options

Q: Can I take the train from Denali to Seward?

A: You could take the train from Denali to Seward but it would require that you overnight in Anchorage. There is only one train daily in each direction. The train from Denali arrives in Anchorage at 8:15pm and the train to Seward departs Anchorage at 6:45am. The Park Connection Motorcoach offers transportation from Denali to Seward in one day.

Seward Cruise Transfers

Q: We are considering taking the train from Anchorage to Seward to get on our cruise ship. I am wondering how we will get from the train to the ship. Do we need to pay for additional transportation to get to our ship?

A: The train depot is a few blocks away from the cruise ship terminal. You can easily walk if the weather is nice. If you would rather not walk you can take a taxi to the terminal. I am including a link to a walking map of Seward. Note, on the map the cruise ship terminal is number 1 and the rail depot is number 3. If you want transportation that drops you off directly at the cruise ship terminal consider taking the Park Connection Motorcoach cruise transfer from Anchorage.

Anchorage Airport to Seward

Q: I will be traveling from Anchorage airport to Seward in late May or early June. Do you provide airport pickup or dropoff?

A: We do not offer transportation directly from the Anchorage airport. The Park Connection Motorcoach offers two departures daily to Seward from downtown Anchorage. A taxi from the airport to downtown Anchorage costs about $20-$25. The 7:00am departure leaves from the Egan Convention Center and the 3:00pm departure leaves from the Anchorage Museum. Park Connection Motorcoach service arriving into Anchorage does drop off at the airport.

Seward Train Departures

Q: Are there any train departures in the morning from Seward to Anchorage?

A: The only train departure from Seward to Anchorage offered by the Alaska Railroad departs in the evening. You can catch the Park Connection Motorcoach service from Seward at 10:30am if you need to be back in Anchorage earlier in the day.

Cruise Transportation to Seward

Q: Is it possible to rent a car in Anchorage and drop it off in Seward? We are travelling from Anchorage to Seward for a cruise.

A: We do not offer any one way rentals between Anchorage and Seward. Hertz is the only company that offers one way rentals between Anchorage and Seward, however they tend to be rather expensive. I would suggest taking the 3:00pm departure on our Park Connection motorcoach service to Seward the day of your cruise. The bus fare is $65 per person and would take you directly to the cruise ship dock. If you would like to go down earlier in the day we also offer a 7:00am departure for $55 per person.

Best Transportation Options between Denali Park and Anchorage

Q: My family and I are planning a trip to Alaska this summer. In researching vacation packages online I see that some companies seem to recommend traveling between Anchorage and Denali Park roundtrip by train, while others recommend roundtrip by motorcoach. I notice that you offer both train and motorcoach options. Can you help us choose which will be best for us? We also want to go to Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park.

A: We recommend vacation packages using a combination of both rail and motorcoach. Generally, travelers fly into Anchorage so we suggest taking the train to Denali and then returning to Anchorage by bus. Our packages are completely customizable so you can reverse that itinerary if you want. The combination of motorcoach and rail gives you the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the scenery offered by both the rail belt and the roadway routes. On the train, enjoy wandering between the cars and take advantage of the dining experience. The Park Connection Motorcoach offers a faster, less expensive option and offers photo stops which is not an option on the train! Another great advantage of the motorcoach is that you can travel between Denali and Seward in one day. On your return to Anchorage from Seward, we recommend you travel by train as that trip is one of the most beautiful on the Alaska rail system and follows a completely different route than the road.
