Alaska Railroad Pricing

Q: Regarding prices from Anchorage to Denali by train, is this a one way fare or round trip?

A: The pricing listed on our website for rail travel is one way per person. Our vacation package prices are per person based on double occupancy (two people in a hotel room).

Alaska Travel Reservations

Q: How far in advance should I book my trip to Alaska?

A: We recommend confirming your reservation prior to the New Year for the best availability. The peak of our reservation season is January and February. Reservations continue through the travel season however, the earlier you book the better chance of getting the hotels and tours that you want, particularly in Denali.

When to visit Alaska

Q: We were planning to come in March but everything I see online talks about the summer months. What time of the year is the best time to come?

A: The most popular time of year to come to Alaska is during the summer travel season from mid May to mid September. We specialize in summer travel to Alaska. Check out our blog on what each month has to offer.

For winter travel information check with the Anchorage and Fairbanks visitors sites and the Northern Alaska tour company website.

Flights Included?

Q: We are considering the 9 day guided tour that starts and ends in Anchorage. Are flights included in the price?

A: The price listed on our website for any of our tour packages do not include airfare. We do not book airfare so you will need to book that on your own.

When to Visit Alaska

Q: What are the pros and cons for visiting in either May or mid August/September?

A: Deciding when to visit Alaska is challenging as each season offers something a little different and weather is difficult to predict. Read our blog on the “best months to visit Alaska” to find the pros and cons of each month.

Denali in September

Q: We will be in Denali on September 14th, 2014. Will the Denali dinner theater be open at this time? If not, what is available to do in the evening for entertainment?

A: The Cabin Night Dinner stops operating on September 2nd. The other evening activities we offer are ATV Adventures and Husky Homestead Kennel Tour.

Getting Around Seward

Q: Can you get around Seward without a car?

A: From one end of Seward to the other it is about a mile. You can certainly walk around with no problems. If you are staying at the Seward Windsong Lodge they have curtsey shuttles that run a loop around town.

Alaska Cruise from Vancouver

Q: Does a 7 day cruise from Vancouver to Alaska return to Vancouver?

A: There are two types of cruises, Inside Passage cruises and Gulf of Alaska cruises. Inside Passage cruises are round trip out of Vancouver and generally visit Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Glacier Bay. The Gulf of Alaska cruises are one way, start in Vancouver and visit the same ports but continue onto either Seward or Whittier. The benefit of the one way cruise is that you can add a land package that allows you to visit Denali National Park. Alaska is a big state so you don’t get the whole experience by visiting only Southeast Alaska.

Alaska Weather in August

Q: We are trying to plan a trip to Alaska and are wondering what weather to expect at the end of August?

A: It is hard to say what the weather will be like for any month in Alaska. Historically, August tends to be a bit rainy, however in some locations temperatures can be in the high 70s. It is safe to always be prepared and bring a rain jacket and clothes to dress in layers. Please visit our blog on best months to travel to Alaska for more information on what to expect on your trip!

Denali Bus Reservations

Q: Do you recommend already booking a shuttle tour in Denali for the end of June?

A: If you plan to go on one of the shuttles that run all day, such as the Denali shuttle bus to the Eielson Visitor Center then you can wait until it is closer to your travel date to book. However, this shuttle is geared towards backpackers and hikers and there will be no narration because it is just transportation in and out of the park. If you are interested in one of the narrated full day bus tours into the park, such as the Kantishna Wilderness Trails Tour, you will need to book that as soon as possible because this tour does sell out on a regular basis during late June.
